You do the right thing. You follow the rules. You work hard.
But something’s missing..
You went to college, got a good degree, and got a good job at a Fortune 500 company right after graduating. This was supposed to be the path to success. Yet you don’t feel successful.
The people you work with aren’t as smart as you expected, for working at such a great company.
Your bosses are not inspiring leaders. They are lazy slave drivers.
It’s ok though, you keep doing your thing. Stick to the plan. If you work hard for the next 40 years, you’ll get to retire and finally enjoy life.
That’s the dream right?
Of course not. But that’s the dream we are sold.
So why are we sold that dream from the time we are a kid?
Because it’s safe? Maybe. Because it’s easy? Not necessarily.
I’ll tell you why.
Because if you were too busy chasing your dreams, you wouldn’t have time to help those in power chase theirs.
If you weren’t satisfied with being average, you wouldn’t sacrifice 1/3 of your life at some crappy 8-5 job.
You’re different though. You work hard. You take action. You seize opportunity. You don’t want to be average.
Yet you still can’t seem to make it to that next level.
That’s because there is still 1 crucial component missing – you lack vision.
Being a hard worker is great. It’s a rare quality. But it’s not enough. You have to take action AND have vision to be very successful.
Creating a vision for your life is a personal endeavor. There’s no recipe that’s set in stone. I believe you already have a vision inside you, but you don’t trust your gut well enough to realize it yet.
So I’m going to share what I believe has helped me find and remain focused on my life vision. Take from this what helps you and leave the rest.
Be In Tune With The Universe
A life vision isn’t something you can just create out of thin air. I only used that word in the title because I know that’s how many people will approach it in their mind.
I really believe that your life vision is already a part of you. You’ve already created it through your experiences in life and your desires.
What you need to do is find it and embrace it.
The way to do that is to be in tune with the universe.
Now before you think I’m on some hippie voodoo nonsense, just hear me out.
Sometimes we are just on. You know what I mean? Sometimes we’re on a hot streak, and we’re just killin’ it!
He’s in the zone… she’s on fire… he’s so lucky… He can’t miss…
Then other times we are off. We make more mistakes, our timing isn’t quite right, etc.
When it rains, it pours… I just can’t catch a break… I can’t seem to do anything right…
We’ve created phrases to describe these sort of phenomena logically – but it’s really more of a spiritual experience than a logical one. It’s a feeling. You don’t have a physical on/off switch on your body. You just sense it. It’s a very real experience.
So wouldn’t it make sense to put forth an effort to being on all the time?
This is what I mean when I say being in tune with the universe.
By being in tune with the universe, you are priming yourself to allow great things to happen. Being in tune with the universe allows you to realize your vision.
How to Stay Tuned
When you tune a radio to a particular station, you start receiving the messages from that station exclusively.
Our minds work the same way.
That’s why habits are so powerful. We get tuned into certain habits, thought processes and ideologies that shape everything about us.
For me personally, being in tune with the universe, or being on, just means being the person I want to be.
We all have an idea of the ideal person we would like to be. The way to become that person is to do the things that our ideal person would do.
So for me, I feel my best when I wake up early, because I want to be an early riser. I feel great when I get things done before the rest of the population has even had their morning coffee.
I feel my best when I exercise and eat real food that fuels my body. My ideal self is healthy and strong.
I feel my best when I learn more through reading and watching interesting documentaries. I want to be intelligent, because I’ve found that knowledge really is power.
Pretty much everything I write about on this website is linked to my ideal self. That’s why I write about these topics.
I have a routine that I like and when I stick to it, I’m on.
You have to figure out what makes you feel your best.
Tune out of the lies that go against your inner dreams and desires. Tune into yourself and into the universe.
Desire + Visualization = Obsession
When you are tuned with the universe, you are primed to realize your life vision.
You are the person you want to be. Now it’s time to accomplish what you want to accomplish.
What do you truly desire to accomplish in life?
I can’t answer this for you. No one can. Deep down, you already know.
But you’re scared. You have good reason to be scared.
To see your vision through you will need to have a desire that is stronger than fear.
The desire is already there, but you need to cultivate passion.
You can do this through visualization.
That doesn’t mean you just sit around and think about your dreams and expect them to come true. That means you create a mental state of obsession. When you are obsessed with something, it never fully leaves your mind.
It becomes a part of everything in your life.
I’m not saying you should create a vision board and tell everyone you talk to about what you want to accomplish – unless you want to.
What I’m saying is that you want your life vision and your life to immerse themselves.
Did you know that professional athletes use visualization to picture themselves performing well and winning? Lebron James has even trained himself to have lucid dreams so he can practice basketball in his sleep. That’s obsession.
But isn’t obsession a bad thing? I’ve always been told it wasn’t healthy…
You were lied to. We all were. We’ve been told that if we just get a college degree that we’ll be set for life. We’ve been told that the path to wealth is through saving and investing in the stock market.
Be a success rebel. I love the irony of how people react to those who are obsessed about seeing their vision through.
When the person is coming up, they might seem a little crazy. They push themselves harder than the average person. They take measures that others might not approve of. For a while, they have nothing to show for their sacrifice. How do people respond?
Why do you do that? I can’t believe you’d be willing to do ____ for your dream. You are crazy! You’re taking it too far. Do you really think that’s going to work?
Eventually, the person sees their vision through and accomplishes what (or more than) they set out to. How do people respond then?
How did you do that? Hey, can you help me do that? You got lucky. Well, I could never do that – you have good ___ (genetics, connections, etc).
People only respect the obsessed individual AFTER he succeeds. When you’re working your way up, the average person looks down on your obsession.
Don’t give their opinions any value. Average people will never realize their life vision and see it through. They respect those who have already done so, but make no mistake – they can’t stand to see one of their peers rise up and leave them behind.
Like every great business, great people need to have vision.
Stop worrying about whether your vision is right or wrong and start worrying about how to make it happen.
Losers tune into current events in the news and pop culture. Losers tune into what we are supposed to do.
Great people are in tune with their ideal self. They are unapologetic in their obsession with their vision.
Which do you want to be?
