Small wins are the milestones you pass or accomplish on the way towards your big vision.
Small wins are the exams you pass on your way to a GPA that lands you the job you want.
Small wins are the first few customers you get when your business is still a side project.
Small wins are the daily, weekly, and monthly milestones you pass that compound into big rewards.
You can’t always control or count on the big wins, but you can always create small wins.
And that’s exactly what you’re going to do.
Small Wins Are Addicting
Whenever we accomplish something, we get a dopamine rush. That’s why our brains like short-term goals — because we get our dopamine fix sooner.
Dopamine is addicting, and when we figure out how to get quick hits of dopamine, we typically return for more.
Except instead of funneling cocaine up your nose, an addiction to small wins is almost guaranteed to make your life better in the long-run.
As long as you’re pursuing small wins that make you healthier, happier, and more successful — small wins are the best
addiction habit you could develop.
Small Wins Build Momentum
It’s my observation that losers have a tendency to lose and winners have a tendency to win — more often than not.
It seems that winners always find a way to win and losers always find a way to lose, despite the circumstances.
Have you noticed that?
I believe momentum has a lot to do with it.
Momentum is a powerful form of energy that can work for us or against us, depending on which direction we direct the momentum.
Our actions will get momentum started, but we need small wins to turn that tiny snowball of momentum into a giant mass of snow avalanching down the mountain.
Small Wins Are Force Multipliers
In addition to a boost in the feels from dopamine that keeps us excited and focused, small wins can exponentially increase our output in more tangible ways.
For example, when you hit a financial milestone in your business you can hire employees or outsource work — allowing you to get twice as much work done in the same amount of time.
All small wins won’t create exponential results unless you choose only to focus on the most productive small wins in your life.
In that case, a habit of small wins is a habit of making rapid progress.
The Small Wins Habit
Like anything else, we can make small wins a habit by identifying and accomplishing small wins on a regular basis.
Aside from things that are essential to staying alive, can you think of very many habits that would have a greater impact on your life?
Obviously, big wins create dramatic changes in our lives immediately.
If you can make a habit of big wins, do that.
However, for everyone else that isn’t Elon Musk, a habit of small wins will be more than sufficient to lead a successful and fulfilling life.
If you thrive on momentum like most people do, the Small Wins Habit is all you need to become a winner who always finds a way to win.
P.S. I wrote the book on habits.
